Appearance: Aemer is a petite, somewhat delicate looking woman with fluffy, silky, pale brown hair that usually falls in waves. She has hazel brown eyes that are actually quite pretty, if they weren't almost perpetually scrunched up in a scowl. Her most striking feature is a long, deep scar all over her right shoulder and across her chest and back and around her torso that look like large, double rows of suction cups burned into her skin. She usually dresses in semi-professional clothes, that are clean and of good quality, and she wears a long, fingerless leather glove on her right hand to hide the scars on her wrist from the numerous parasite bites. She usually keeps her long hair down to hide the scars visible on her neck, but puts it up in braids around her head when she is working as a bioengineer.

History:

Aemer grew up in a very poor family, barely scraping by on the edge of the Tortue Cities. Her father was an engineered baby, and her mother was conscripted as a bioengineer from a relatively young age. Her mother died in battle before Aemer got to really know her, and when Aemer was 7, tragedy struck. A squid managed to sneak through the borders, and reached the Tortue Cities, killing several on the edges of the City, including her father. It grabbed her with its venomous tentacles, and that should have killed her, but against all odds, Aemer survived.

This brought attention to young Aemer, and the military began doing some tests on her, discovering she was unique, somehow, with better compatibility than anyone they'd ever seen, and the apparent ability to communicate with the Calamar without using their mental link. Some people thought she'd be a useful weapon, others wanted to destroy her, and that's when Jack Ross-Ford stepped in. Jack was a young, brilliant mech-designer whose entire family had died in a fire when he was young, and he was 24 when he decided he was going to protect this little girl by adopting her.

Aemer has always felt grateful to Jack for taking her in, treating her as his own daughter through even her most trying times, and trying to protect her, but a deeper feeling has always driven her - a desire for meaning in her life that she satisfies with thoughts of revenge for everything she's had to endure. Part of her believes that the reason she has the gifts she does are so that she can one day fulfill her destiny, and destroy all the Calamar for good. She is held back by the concerns of those who remember the story of her abilities, who prevented her from going to college, with the excuse that her blood poses a real danger of her turning full squid, and has been impatiently sitting on the sidelines waiting to join a real battle ever since she enlisted out of high school.

Personality: Aemer is generally thought of as an A-class bitch, and she's never bothered to attempt to change that perception of herself. She is smart, but no-nonsense and extremely blunt, and generally bad at picking up on how people are doing or explaining things to other people besides anti-squid strategies. She has extremely high standards for herself and for everyone around her, and anyone who doesn't meet those standards can immediately expect a quite lovely stream of swear words directed their way, even more so if they're both incompetent and bad at listening to her directives. She has very little time or patience for what she considers frivolous things and comes off as curt at best, downright evil for most. At the same time, whatever she puts her mind to, Aemer can do. She's never been the sort to allow anyone to tell her she has limits.
